November 2022 ARTastic double page DT layout

Check out this jungle themed display window for our ARTastic challenge inspiration this month.

I instantly saw a double page spread, so that's what I created. Mostly green, with some brown and jungle themed. I used paint, nuvo drops, kinda glitz, die-cuts and stickers. Plus one flair.

Here's my page.

I started with some green cardstock as my background. I chose a couple of different coloured green paints and some white and randomly drew my brush through the colours and then created some curved lines across each of my pages.  I added some nuvo drops and kindy glitz for added shine and interest.

I've matted each of the photos with brown so as to add that colour from the inspiration pic.

The twine is for the vines that monkeys swing through and if you look at the inspo pic you can see some of the "vines" do go across.

There is one pop of orange so I picked that colour up for my title. Appropriate given the photo subject, yes?

Then I've just added some die cut and sticker leaves, along with a little journalling.

Get your entry in.

ARTastic cyber crop

ARTastic are holding their second cyber crop. Go to the link for all the details.

They are playing some fun games and doing 3 challenges. I have examples for the following:

Challenge One
RECIPE CHALLENGE
Please use:
1 x photo
2 x buttons
3+ other patterned papers
Arrows (you chose how many)
Enamel dots (you chose how many)

Challenge Three
THIS or THAT CHALLENGE
BOY themed or GIRL themed
BLUE tones or PINK tones
BLING or BRADS
FLOWERS or CHIPBOARD
TWINE or WASHI
PAINT or INK

My choices were:
This or That
Used boy, blue, bling, cb, washi and ink. The nautical buttons and the title are cb stickers. I particularly wanted to use bling on a blue page. I've said boy because it's not a girly page.

RULES
To be eligible for each challenge prize draw your entry must be placed into the appropriate album (or left as a comment in that album) by midnight Sunday, 28th August. Any entries only placed onto our wall will not be included in the prize draw. Entries must be your original work created exclusively for our Cyber Crop. International entries welcome.

Get on it. Still plenty of time. We'd love to see your entries.

August ARTastic design project - scrapbook layout

I hope all is well with you.

I love a nice cup of chai latte. It warms you up in winter and it tastes yummy. Lately I've been having it with almond milk. Very tasty. Adds a nice nutty flavour.

This month's window challenge for ARTastic is a really interesting one. I'm keen to see the interpretations in the entries. I'll show you the inspo pic and then post my layout, then give you my interp.

I felt like there were many choices here.

I've picked up the kraft coloured background, the red from the dress and the wheat. The cinnamon in my tea looked a bit like wheat I thought. Plus, there's bound to be tea in that picnic basket, right? I made a little teacup with some charcoal coloured paper (from the saucer colour in my photo) and I had a chipboard spoon which I coloured with a copic marker. I've also added a banner (inspo came from the spotlights hanging off the sides).

Have a go. Head to facebook to enter here.

July ARTastic challenge

Here is my page for this month's ARTastic scrapbook challenge.

It depicts my son's first driving lesson.

The inspo window is:

I've used the colours, especially light blue background. I have squares, like the domino shape. Also included luck.

I could see the window translating to a really great double page layout, I hope someone goes in that direction.

Head over to fb to add your entry. Winners are chosen at random so anyone can win.

Cyber Crop- Hollywood theme

I'm very excited to tell you about something special going on at ARTastic this weekend. They're holding a cyber crop. It is Hollywood themed. How fun is that? I was asked to create a challenge for it. I just love my challenge and I hope you do too. Here it is:

JUNE CYBER CROP
Base your layout on the Hollywood Walk of Fame logo, using any number of the following criteria:
  1. Feature any of the words Hollywood, Walk, Fame.
  2. Use the colours of the logo: pink, gold, black and white.
  3. Use the design of the logo as a sketch.
  4. Use one giant star as the feature of your page.

I've use all of the colours in my layout. I very loosely followed the logo and I three different stars, as well as the title.

I really can't wait to see the entries for this.

18th birthday layout

Hey, check out this layout I did of my son on his 18th birthday.  Isn't he a cool dude?

This page is my design inspiration for June's challenge at ARTastic this month.

Below is the window display we are taking inspiration from.

The photos of my son reminded me of the screen in the middle of the window display. I've used black, cream and gold and a nod to dressing up/fashion. I've also added a frame to one pic.

I've followed the design principle of the three, using 3 photos and allowing the eye to move along the page diagonally.

Hope you can join us. You could do something really cool with this inspirational scene I'm sure.

Add paint to a scrapbook page

ARTastic has mixed it up this year. They're going with shop windows as inspiration.  I love this theme. I also came up with it, hahaha.

ARTastic challenge for May 2022

I really adore this month's inspiration.  I immediately thought of washi tape. You could use that. It would look great.

When I chose my photo for it though, I changed my medium.  I decided upon paint. There are such beautiful blues in the photo so I got some acrylics and mixed up my own colours. I had a lot of fun doing it.

I needed to add the punches of colour from the rig, orange and yellow. So happy with the outcome.

First cyber crop at ARTastic

Hey, there is a cyber crop going on right now at ARTastic. Go here to join in the challenges.

Today I did Challenge 2, set by Karen. It's really fun.  Here's the criteria you need to meet:

I challenge you to follow a recipe:
Ingredients:
Shapes
Chipboard
Die
Stencil
Method:
Choose one shape and use it as many times as you wish.
Use at least two pieces of Chipboard.
Die cut at least one shape.
Use a stencil.

Here's my layout.

The stencil I used was all diamonds. I used Pebbles Pearlescent chalk and made up a pattern. It just adds a little something extra and directs your eyes to the photos.

Get your layout in the album by 18 April to be eligible for a prize. It would be great if you could get behind this cyber crop.

ARTastic are having a Cyber Crop!

Wow. ARTastic are having a cyber crop.  You will love this one. It is about shapes. Easy subject matter.

I wanted to do something really fun. I chose to make a mini album for my son's 22nd birthday. He has moved to Sydney to work.  Very sad about that, but a great opportunity for him.

I had a Kaisercraft circle chipboard album that I thought would work. I also chose a couple of 6x6 paper packs to draw from. Blue and red seemed a great colour combination for a 22 year old guy.

Firstly, I used some Semco soft blue acrylic paint to give 3 coats of paint to one side of each circle.

I chose complementary papers and covered the other sides using Mod Podge. I also punched some stars from the offcuts of the papers.

Last thing was to choose embellishments. I wanted to keep it simple.  I used die cuts, ribbon and stickers. I put the whole thing together using a jump ring.

I love how it turned out. I hope it make it to him in the post in one piece. I miss him a lot.

Music themed scrapbook page for April ARTastic challenge

Hi friends. Happy April Fool's Day!

Here is my layout for April 2022's ARTastic challenge.

These two ladies are my dear friends. The title is best friends forever.

Here is the inspo pic.

ARTastic are using shop windows this year. Cool huh. I used to think for a while that I wanted to be a Visual Display Presenter.  Great creativity involved in that job.  I've picked up the lime green and bright pink wavy pipe patterns as my colour inspiration and background paper choice. Also I like the glam look of the ladies.

Looking forward to seeing what your entry might be. Head over to the facebook page to enter. Random draw creates an equal playing field for the win.

Have a great day.

March ARTastic scrapbook page

Hey, it's March!  A really fun and quirky challenge is ready for you at ARTastic this month.  See the design inspiration below. You'll see from my example that mushrooms are not at all necessary.

I chose to go with bright colours in a variety of colours and a multitude of patterns. I also liked the border around every side so I added that to my page.

Go to the ARTastic fb page to add  your entry.

Happy creating.

February ARTastic layout

Welcome to the first of my Design Team examples for ARTastic challenge blog for 2022.

We've gone in a new direction this year, taking our inspiration from shop displays.

I had such a multitude of ideas for this one. I had very strong ideas. I wonder which way you'll go.

Here is my layout. The inspiration pic is below.

I chose to go with black outlined shapes, in my case squares. I also used the 3 primary colours of blue, red and yellow and the theme of shoes.  I love shoes, truly.  I was gonna show you all my shoe closet. I would have had to tidy it though. It's not too bad but still.

Have some fun with this. Go to the facebook page to add your entry.

Happy creating.

ARTastic December 2021 Design challenge

Wow, it's December!

Hope all are well. I'm looking forward to Christmas.

Here is a cute challenge for you.

This challenge blog is an Australian one. This month's inspiration is:

Adrienne Higgs with "Christmas Kangaroos".

No photo description available.

Why not have kangaroos (boomers) as we three kings?

You must add stars to your creation.

Here is my card and I'll explain what inspired me.

I saw that there were stars in the background. I've added stars in the background using chalk and a stencil.  The chalks I used are by Pebbles and they are iridescent. They look very pretty in real life.

There are also stars in the polar bear scene.

All the animals are facing right. I definitely have a lot more than 3 and they're not kangaroos, but I figure that is AOK.

This was the first Christmas card I made for the year (back on 29 September).

I wonder how you will be inspired. Head over to the facebook page to enter here.

November challenge at ARTastic

When I saw this month's inspiration painting it reminded me of a canvas I had begun at a workshop on 12/8/18. There was not enough time to complete it at the workshop so I brought it home and there it sat.

I was inspired to complete it as I think it very nicely relates to the painting below.

Emma Uber with "Beauty will save the world"

I had drawn the design in pencil and painted some of the flowers and that was all.  I decided to use black around the edges for a more striking look.

Here is a pic of it part way completed.

Here a couple of what I consider to be done. I'm no artist so I really was a bit scared of stuffing it up.  It could be way better but it looks alright and I had fun doing it. Mainly, I am glad I finally completed it. So, thanks Jane.

Thanks for looking.

October ARTastic mixed media challenge

Here is a fun challenge.

May be art
Lyn Butchart with Aquatic Art

Don't you love the colours! The extra criteria is mixed media with ink. Yay.

I made a card.

No photo description available.

This is a rather large card. I love the stencil I used. I added some soft lilac to white gesso. I've also stamped the green corner leaves and the sentiment. I've added a handmade lace and fabric flower that I made too.

You don't have to go the aquatic route, as I have shown, but of course you are welcome to.

ARTastic September layout

 Hi all,

Hope you're all doing well and getting lots of crafting done.

I've done a page for my DT position at ARTastic.

Here is my layout.

These are photographs from a 2019 trip we took with friends to Borneo - Malaysia. This is the first day of our trip where we stopped to get lunch.

Here is the inspiration painting.

It is by Robert Hagan called Big Guns.May be an image of bird and outdoors

There is also a sketch we need to use. Plus extra criteria is boys only.

This a great sketch that you could use over and over again.

I've picked up the colours from the painting, used a kraft background to represent the sand. I also used yellow and blue.

Jump on this. Head over to facebook and upload your layout there.

Bee Happy cards for ARTastic August 2021 challenge

I have two cards for you to see today. They are simple but effective.

See the print below for this month's inspiration. The criteria is black and white, plus insects.

I chose to make two cards using a set that came with a magazine. I used two of the acrylic stamps from this set.

For one card I have used my Creative Memories hexagon punches. The other card has simple stickers from Mrs Grossman that I have had forever.

Barbara Hanrahan with Butterfly Catcher (1990)

Materials used:  linocut, black ink on ivory Velin Arches paper

Hope you can join in this month. Go here to upload your entry.

Cheers,

July ARTastic reveal

ARTastic is a fun challenge blog. There is an inspiration painting and then a criteria to add to your scrapbook layout design.

July's inspo is:

Elioth Gruner with Orchard

The criteria to add is a rural/garden scene, plus feathers.

I chose to use some photos from a boat tour I went on with my husband in Borneo. There were many exotic birds to spot in the wild jungle. Hard to get photographs, let alone good ones. I chose two of my better ones.

I've used soft greens and yellow. I like the overall softness of the end result. The large leaf you see is from a silk cushion I had. It had deteriorated in places but I loved  the stitched leaves so I cut them off to add to future projects. It adds a nice element of texture to the page.

Click on the link above to take you to ARTastic's facebook page. Here is the link to the blog to see the other Design Team's pages.
